Internships & Scholarships

Project Resilience offers opportunities for AAPI students to gain workplace experience and learn career skills. Two semester-long options are available for students: the College of Liberal Arts Internship and Career Development Center Scholarship. Through these internships students are able to explore potential careers and gain invaluable work experience in in-demand industry sectors and occupations, including community organizations serving AAPIs.

Project Resilience Internships:

  • Internships are hosted within the College of Liberal Arts.
  • The Career Development Center has specialized activities for Project Resilience Awardees to complete and gain professional development.
  • They provide hands-on experience in various fields, tailored to the interests and career goals of AAPI students.
  • Internships aim to build professional skills, enhance career readiness, and foster connections with industry professionals.

Scholarships:

  • Scholarships support first-generation, low-income, and/or AANHPI students in achieving their academic goals.
  • Our Project Resilience Scholarship is $2,000 towards students who are engaging in unpaid internships via course credit or outside the university. 
  • They are designed to alleviate financial stressors and promote academic & financial wellness.

Project Resilience provides opportunities for students to do meaningful work in Asian American & Native Hawaiian/ Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities through a semester-long internship partnered with the College of Liberal Arts. Selected students will enroll in a hybrid class that cultivates community, engages in reflection to understand experiences within broader AANHPI community issues, and hone professional skills. Students who successfully complete the program receive a $2000 scholarship and class credit*.  Internship sites will be recruited based on student interests. 

Past organizations have included Empowering Pacific Islander Communities (EPIC), Khmer Girls in Action, Viet Rainbow of Orange County, Pacific Island Ethnic Art Museum (PIEAM), and the Filipino Migrant Center.

Partnered with the Career Development Center (CDC), the Project Resilience Internship Scholarship aims to create equitable access to professional development for Asian American Pacific Islander, low-income, and/or first-generation college students. Students selected to participate in the Project Resilience Internship Scholarship will be supported by CDC advisors in furthering their professional skills while participating in an internship. Recipients will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship. 

*This scholarship is geared towards students who have already secured an unpaid internship. You must participate in the CDC's activities to be awarded the $2,000.*

To support award recipients in developing career-readiness skills, recipients must complete the following:

  • Attend 2 In-Person Cohort Sessions: 
    • 1) Orientation 2) StrengthsFinder Assessment
  • Attend 2 workshops and submit notes on sessions (Virtual or In-Person options)  
  • Connect with a mentor through Beach Nexus
  • Submit picture of themselves at the internship and a paragraph on likes/challenges and what they’ve learned thus far
  • Attend 2 In-Person Group Counseling Sessions on Professional Skills
