Project Resilience at California State University, Long Beach, is a transformative initiative developed as an outcome of the AANAPISI (Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions) grant awarded in 2021. We are funded by the US Department of Education AANAPISI Award #P382B210042. We are one of eight federally designated Minority-Serving Institutions (MSI) programs, which was established by Congress in 2007 as part of the College Cost Reduction and Access Act. Project Resilience is a program at CSULB to support our AAPI students by improving retention and graduation rates while focusing on holistically increasing mental health and wellness.

This project follows a comprehensive four-pronged approach:

  • Peer Mentorship: Offering dedicated mentorship programs that provide guidance, support, and encouragement to foster personal and academic growth among AAPI students.
  • Learning Communities: Creating supportive spaces for students to connect, share experiences, and engage in collaborative learning opportunities tailored to their cultural and academic needs.
  • Faculty and Staff Workshops: Facilitating professional development and training sessions to enhance cultural competency and improve support for AAPI students across the campus.
  • Internship-Scholarship Opportunities: Providing valuable internships and scholarships to help students gain practical experience, financial support, and career readiness.
