CSULB NUFP Program
The NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP) is a fellowship for undergraduate students aspiring to become professionals in the fields of student affairs and higher education. NUFP is administered by NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education and CSULB’s unique campus-based program is sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs. This semi-structure program provides each Fellow with a student affairs professional (Mentor) and monthly professional development/graduate school preparation seminars. Fellows and their Mentors may have opportunities to attend NASPA regional and/or national events. Fellows are also eligible to apply for conference stipends, paid summer internships and the Dungy Leadership Institute.
NUFP Mission
The mission of the NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program is to increase the number of historically disenfranchised and underrepresented professionals in student affairs and/or higher education, including but not limited to those of racial and ethnic-minority background; those having a disability; and those identifying as LGBTQ.

Through participation in this program, NUFP Fellows will develop:
- Strategies to sustain equity program/practice through the lens of a case study/project;
- Writing, research, and presentation skills;
- Ethical decision making skills;
- Cultural competency skills;
- Professional networking skills;
- Ability to identify and develop personal, academic, and career goals;
- Awareness and understanding of engaged citizenship and service;
- Understanding about multiple relationships to power and privilege;
- Understanding of the history, mission, and purpose of student affairs and the various institutional types and structures within higher education; and
- Understanding of NASPA’s organization and structure.
Selected fellows must fulfil the following program requirements:
- NUFP Orientation (Fall Semester)
- Professional development workshops (monthly)
- Cohort check-in meetings (monthly)
- Mentor-fellow meetings (monthly)
- Mid-year NUFP evaluation (due January)
- NUFP project (spring quarter)
- End-of-year NUFP evaluation (due May)
NUFP participants may apply for funding and support to attend one NASPA-sponsored event per year. These events include:
- Western Regional Conference (Fall)
- NASPA National Conference (Spring)
- The Dungy Leadership Institute (Summer)
