Instructions for Completing the Multiple Subject Student Teacher Evaluation

Instructions for Completing the Multiple Subject Student Teacher Evaluation

  • Master Teachers and University Supervisors complete approximately one formal observation each week of the assignment (or at least a minimum of 5-6 for each assignment), using the Student Teacher Observation Rubric.  Please keep in mind that this is a snapshot of what the student teacher can do with limited assistance.
  • Lesson plans should be submitted to you prior to the lesson to allow you to score and provide any feedback.  The score should reflect what the student teacher can do unassisted; however, you may provide feedback on the lesson plan prior to implementation.
  • The Student Teacher Candidate should be given a score of 0-4 for each line of the Rubric.  You can award half points (e.g., 1.5, 3.5, etc.).  You can record the score on the rubric itself by entering the date of observation.  The same paper rubric can be used over the course of the assignment to allow for a visual representation of progress and areas of needed growth.  You can also use the paper version of the Student Teacher Observation Tool to document scores.
  • University Supervisor will review the Master Teacher’s Student Teaching Observation Record each week.
  • Master Teacher and University Supervisor  (either together or separately) share formative assessment results with Student Teacher and set goals for the next week.  The Student Teacher should maintain a hard copy of their Student Teacher Observation Record.
  • You will receive a link via email that will allow you to enter your scores in Google Forms.  **Please enter your scores weekly.**  You can also enter weekly narrative feedback on the "Weekly Observation Feedback" sheet.
  • Once scores have been entered, you will be able to see an average of the Standard (i.e. Professionalism, Lesson Design and Assessment, etc.) and an average of the specific criterion.  Those scores are calculated automatically within the Student Teacher Observation Record.
  • At the mid point of the assignment (3-4 weeks) and after the scores for those observations have been entered, an average score will be automatically calculated for each Standard.  (The lowest two scores in Professionalism and Classroom Management for that assessment period are not calculated into the average score.  The four lowest scores in Lesson Design and Lesson Implementation are not calculated into the average score.)  You can also add narrative feedback in the Comments section.
  • At the end of the assignment (7-8 weeks) and after the scores for those observations have been entered, an average score will be automatically calculated for each Standard.  (The lowest two scores in Professionalism and Classroom Management for that assessment period are not calculated into the average score.  The four lowest scores in Lesson Design and Lesson Implementation are not calculated into the average score.  You can also add narrative feedback on the sheet entitled, "Formative/Summative Evaluation Conference Feedback."
  • Students will have access to view their evaluations via their personalized online link.  Please note that students will have ‘read-only’ access to the evaluations.
