Join us for the first event in our year-long Sustainability Speaker Series. This monthly series will bring compelling experts and influencers from diverse fields to educate our community about a range of sustainability topics.
Each 45 minute talk will be followed by Q & A with our guest speakers so bring your curiosity and your questions!
FREE PARKING will be provided in lot G4 across from the garden. Attendees are encouraged to choose the most sustainable mode possible to travel to campus.
Jessica Aldridge – Zero Waste Professional, Educator, Organizer
Jessica Aldridge is long-time environmental steward, community organizer, and waste industry leader working alongside nonprofits and community groups. She has almost 15 years of experience working as a Zero Waste professional. Jessica runs the nonprofit Adventures in Waste, is a co-founder of the SoCal 350 Climate Action Coalition, and a co-host/producer of EcoJustice Radio an award-winning podcast and KPFK 90.7 radio broadcast that presents environmental and climate stories from a social justice frame. As the Director of Sustainability and Zero Waste Programs for Athens Services, she designs programs for the most challenging waste scenarios, consults with corporate brands, and advances Athens’ environmental goals. She leads on Athens’ food rescue and Zero Waste outreach and education programs. As a principal proposal writer/editor, she helped secure and roll out the largest waste-franchise agreement in U.S. history (recycLA in the City of Los Angeles). She is a recipient of the international 2021 Women in Sustainability Leadership Awards and the 2016 inaugural Waste360, 40 Under 40 Award.
She is also a founding coalition member of ReusableLA, Co-Chair of Women in Solid Waste and Recycling – SoCal Chapter, Executive Committee member for CRRA’s Prevention Reuse and Repair Technical Council, and Steering Committee member for USGBC-LA San Fernando Valley. She is a former professor of Recycling & Resource Management at Santa Monica College. In her free time, she makes trash into art.
