Virtual Sustainability Project Showcase

Published April 1, 2020

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our annual Green Generation Showcase event has been cancelled. However, the centerpiece of the event, the Sustainability Project Showcase will transition to an online version!

We are seeking Sustainability Focused Research Posters, Artworks, Prototypes, Videos, Performances and more to be featured in the Online Sustainability Project Showcase. Students from all majors are welcomed to submit a project of any kind, as long as it is related to sustainability in some way and can be displayed in an online format.

Sustainability Project Showcase FAQ

The Sustainability Project Showcase is an opportunity for students to display and gain recognition for any and all types of sustainability-related projects --from posters and prototypes to artworks and performances.  The showcase typically features more than 50 projects representing a wide variety of disciplines. We hope that this year’s Showcase will be even bigger and more diverse than ever!

Current CSULB students from any discipline are invited to participate in the project showcase. This includes undergraduate, graduate, full and part-time students.

While the primary focus of the Project Showcase is student work, we also invite faculty to submit a digital file/graphic or a short video describing their own sustainability-related research, scholarly or creative activities (RSCA). Faculty interested in showcasing their work should contact Sustainability Coordinator Holli Fajack at holli.fajack@csulb.edu

All types of projects are acceptable as long as they are related to a sustainability issue or solution in some way. Research posters, artworks, prototypes, performances, interactive displays, and videos are all welcome. Projects must have some element that can be displayed in a visual way on an online format (i.e. research papers are not appropriate).

Deadlines:

  • Complete online participation form and upload digital file or link by Monday, April 27, 2020
  • Online Showcase will go live by Monday, May 4th, 2020
  • View projects, like and comment anytime between May 4th and the end of the spring semester

In order to accommodate an online version of the Showcase, we are asking students to submit digital projects to a OneDrive folder or provide a web link if the project is a video file already uploaded on YouTube or Vevo. Upon completing the Project Submission Form, participants will be provided with a link to OneDrive where they must upload their project no later than midnight on Monday, April 27th. We ask that the primary contact person, as indicated in the participation form, regularly checks their email in case we need to address any technical issues related to displaying digital project.

Projects will be displayed on this website as well as on CSULB Sustainability Facebook page, allowing participants to like, comment, and share projects.

We encourage showcase participants to regularly check on their project (via the appropriate post on our Sustainability Project Showcase Facebook album) to answer any questions and/or contribute to the conversation.

It is our hope that by moving the Sustainability Project Showcase online, our entire community will engage in conversations, like, comment, and/or share the projects.

This year's Project Showcase will not be reviewed by judges and winners will not be selected from each category. However, all students displaying a project will receive a Certificate of Participation. Depending on our ability to distribute items during this period of social distancing, each participant may also recieve a special sustainability-related prize.

In the past, we have found that the showcase is most successful when we partner with faculty who incorporate a sustainability project requirement into their spring semester courses. The projects would need to be completed at least a couple days before April 27th in order to be included in the Showcase. See Call for Projects form for details. Contact Sustainability Coordinator Holli Fajack at holli.fajack@csulb.edu for additional information about the submission process and deadlines.

Faculty can encourage their classes - either through a Beachboard post or an announcement during a class Zoom session - to visit the online Sustainability Project Showcase and engage in conversations about the work. The showcase is a great opportunity to explore sustainability concepts and ideas with students who worked hard to present their work.
