Liberal Studies Mission Statement:
The Liberal Studies department is a teaching and learning community committed to preparing professional educators and practitioners, who are socially responsible and equity-minded, through a rich cross-disciplinary program of study. We promote equity and excellence through culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogies, evidence-based practices, innovation, and advocacy. Our faculty and staff utilize humanizing pedagogies to maximize student learning, sense of belonging, and shaping students holistically. Our faculty and advisors are committed to meeting the needs and strengths of all of our students, especially first-generation students from ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Liberal Studies Program Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate proficiency in Elementary Subject Matter areas (Language Arts, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, History & Social Science, Visual & Performing Arts).
- Demonstrate an understanding of the intersectionality of race, class, ethnicity, language, gender identity, ability, and sexual orientation as they relate to teaching and learning.
- Demonstrate proficiency in written, oral (as appropriate) and digital communication (including the appropriate use of technology).
- Demonstrate proficiency in critical thinking, informational literacy, and argumentation.
