UDCP Teacher Residency & Scholarships

 

Long Beach Teacher Residency Grant

Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, UDCP candidates will be eligible to join the Long Beach Residency Program. As residents, they will earn a living expense stipend during their student teaching year. Details as follows:

  • The Long Beach Residency Program will accept up to 25 UDCP candidates each year.
  • Candidates interested in joining the residency program will participate in an additional application and interview jointly held by Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) and CSULB at the end of their first year of UDCP.
  • Residents must be pursuing a Mild/Moderate Support Needs credential in addition to a Multiple Subject credential.
    • Extensive Support Needs credentials not eligible for stipend.
  • Residents commit to a full year of student teaching, following the LBUSD school calendar.
  • Residents complete student teaching in LBUSD in a TK-3rd Grade Collaborative Co-Teaching (CCT) classroom.
  • Residents shall agree in writing to serve in a school within the jurisdiction of LBUSD for at least four school years, beginning with the school year following the successful completion and attainment of a preliminary teaching credential.
    • Residents not hired by LBUSD will be offered guidance on other job opportunities within or outside the district.
    • Residents will have eight school years to complete the four-school-year teaching
      commitment.
  • Residents who fail to earn a preliminary credential, complete the period of the placement, or serve as a teacher for four years shall reimburse the district the amount of grant funding invested in the candidate’s residency training.
