Federal Grants
Program faculty have secured federal funding to train three cohorts (15 teachers) of Special Education teachers over a period of 5 years. The federal grant will focus primarily on culturally responsive transition planning. Funding for the participants on this grant will be around $16,000 the first year and $13,000 the second year- to be used for tuition and other education related expenses. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Edwin Achola.
TEACH Grants
Students who plan to teach as a special educator, may wish to consider the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant that is designed for students who intend to teach full time in a high-need field at a public or private elementary or secondary school that the U.S. Department of Education has designated as having a high concentration of students from low-income families. For more information and to apply, see
Tuition Waiver Fund
CSULB has a highly selective pilot program for graduate students that provides free-tuition to “highly competitive applicants, who might otherwise accept an admission offer from another institution.” This program will fund approximately 3 students in the college based on faculty nominations.
