Admissions

History/Social Science

This page offers information regarding admission to the Social Science Credential Program.  Additional general information for prospective students is available on the Single Subject admissions page.

To apply to the Single Subject Credential Program (Social Science), students must take EDSS 300S: Introduction to Social Science Teaching.  As the prerequisite to admission to the Single Subject Credential Program (Social Science), EDSS 300S introduces students to the methods and professional behaviors of teaching middle and high school history and social science in California.  EDSS 300S also guides students through the application to the Social Science credential program.

Undergraduate students at CSULB may take EDSS 300S as early as their junior year, but we recommend taking it as close to graduation as possible.

Students who have graduated must apply to CSULB as post-baccalaureate or credential students at Cal State Apply OR take EDSS 300S through University Extension. Students may apply for post-baccalaureate status at the University before taking EDSS 300S; however, admission to the University does not constitute admission into the Single Subject Program.

Requirements for Program Admission

EDSS 300S guides students through the process of applying to the Social Science Single Subject Credential.
