Three awards are offered each year: the Outstanding Faculty Research/Scholarship Award, the Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award, and the Outstanding Faculty Service Award. These awards reflect sustained work in one of the three areas over the course of a faculty member’s career at CSULB. All full-time CED faculty (tenure track, tenured and lecturers) are eligible for these awards. The call for applications is typically issued in late October with a late January deadline. Awards are administered via the CED InfoReady site. The College Faculty Awards Committee uses the CED Outstanding Faculty Awards rubric to review CED Outstanding Faculty Awards proposals.

Faculty who have taught courses or served on Ed.D. dissertation committees in the current academic year may apply for RSCA funds via a special call through the Educational Leadership department. The call is typically issued mid-Spring semester and due by the end of April.

ORED supports internal grants of two types: 1) discipline-specific (one principal investigator) or 2) multidisciplinary research (multiple principal investigators). The purpose of ORED Internal Grants is to promote proposal submission for major external funding. The Request for Proposals is typically issued early in the spring semester, with proposals due by the end of February. ORED internal grants are only open to tenured or tenure-track faculty and are administered via the University’s InfoReady site.

Professors Around the World (PAW) is a CSULB global faculty incentive grants program sponsored by the Office of the Provost in conjunction with the Office of International Education and Global Engagement. The goal of the program is to strengthen CSULB's mission and comprehensive campus internationalization initiatives. PAW engages and supports faculty travel related to developing study or work abroad opportunities for students, international research projects with clear student impacts, or potential for growing institutional linkages, and building relationships with oversees partner institutions. Strong preference is given to projects that are sustainable. All tenured, tenure-track and full-time lecturers are eligible. The call for proposals typically has two cycles for the following academic year, with April 15 and October 15 deadlines. Announcements are sent via email approximately one month prior to the deadlines.

Two complementary award competitions are typically offered each year.

  • Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity (RSCA) awards of several types are offered:

The Call for Proposals for RSCA awards is sent via the College, and applications are submitted via the CED InfoReady site. The Call for Proposals for MGSS awards is sent via ORED and applications are submitted via the University’s InfoReady site. Both calls are are typically issued in late September with a deadline in early November for the following academic year. Faculty may apply for both RSCA and MGSS awards; however, they may receive only one award per academic year.

Sabbatical awards are offered through a competitive process open to all full-time faculty who have completed six consecutive years of service at the university since their appointment or prior sabbatical. Sabbaticals include full pay for one semester or half pay for one academic year. Faculty Affairs provides information on sabbaticals and issues an announcement in October each year, along with individual emails to eligible faculty. Proposals are due via Interfolio by the posted deadline during the third week of November. Faculty may also apply for Difference in Pay Leaves. Review of proposals is guided by the Academic Senate policy on sabbaticals and difference in pay leaves. The College’s Faculty Awards Committee reviews applications for sabbaticals and difference-in-pay leaves and makes their recommendations to the Dean, who makes the final decision on awards.
