CED Professional Development Overview
Welcome to the CED Professional Development Series site, which provides an overview of all college-level Summer and Fall 2020 offerings, to assist faculty in preparing for delivering classes in Alternative Modes of Instruction for Fall 2020. In addition, the university is offering an array of sustained professional development activities, while departments have specific offerings that have been, or will be, announced via email. Watch our introductory video for more details about the CED PD Series and how it complements university and department offerings.
CED PD Series offerings include recorded Technology Essentials sessions, plus live Teaching Strategy sessions (many of which will be recorded for viewing at your convenience). Be sure to scroll through the entire page to view all sessions offered. Registration is required for all live sessions.

Recorded Technology Essentials Sessions
Setting Up Your Course in BeachBoard
Description: This informational session will focus on organizing layout, content and communication to ensure your BeachBoard course is approachable and accessible to all students.

Description: This informational session will focus on configuring settings through the Zoom site, scheduling meetings, and basic functionality in the Zoom interface.

Tech Tools Showcase
Description: This informational session will provide an overview of the tech tools available through the college and university and why faculty might select them. Tools include Kaltura Capture, BeachBoard, Media, Camtasia and MS Teams.

Recording Videos for Your Courses
Description: This demonstration will show how to quickly produce videos of yourself teaching using Kaltura Capture that you will have students watch as a part of asynchronous learning in your courses. Uploading and embedding videos using BeachBoard Media will also be covered.

Using Camtasia to Produce High Quality Videos for Your Courses
Description: This demonstration will provide an in-depth walkthrough on how to use Camtasia to produce more polished videos for your courses. Includes basic editing principles, common tools to use within Camtasia, as well as how to export and host your video.

Description: This interactive session will provide an overview of the University Library’s resources and services for online or remote teaching.

Online Course Design: Step by Step
Description: This 50-minute workshop will introduce the process of online course design. A sample synchronous and asynchronous online course that meets Quality Matters guidelines and utilizes most features of BeachBoard and Qualtrics will be shared.

Description: This webinar explains timing factors for remote learning and provides strategies for both synchronous and asynchronous sessions in a course.

Supporting Teacher Candidates with TK-12 Online Learning
Description: This interactive session will prepare CED faculty to support teacher candidates for Alternative Modes of Instruction (e.g., asynchronous, synchronous, and blended learning). The purpose of this workshop is to model and reflect on the use of digital tools in the context of learning. We will discuss best practices to prepare candidates for student teaching.

Hands-on with Zoom Tools
Description: This interactive workshop will provide walkthroughs of how to use tools in Zoom to increase engagement with students. Tools covered will be determined by the participants in the session, and space will be provided for open discussion of use and best practices around tools in the Zoom platform.

Equity-Minded AMI and Student Support
Description: In Spring 2020, Frank Harris III and J. Luke Woods presented two webinars on equity-minded and culturally affirming teaching, and equity minded student support in the online environment. In this session, we will review their key points and provide ways to translate them to our setting in the CED where we prepare teachers, counselors and leaders.

Intergroup Dialogue in Alternative Modes of Instruction
Description: Synchronous and asynchronous online learning environments provide ample opportunities to use Intergroup Dialogue (IGD) techniques and principles. In this session, we will review key IGD concepts and learn of ways to practice and experience IGD activities that may strengthen our online communities.
