BUILD Symposium Call for Presenters
Theme: Discovery/ The Power of the Inquisitive Mind
Friday, March 2, 2018 | 9 AM – 2 PM | USU Ballrooms, CSULB
BUILD is hosting its annual research symposium to showcase the diversity and breadth of health-related research conducted at CSULB. The symposium will provide a unique opportunity for individuals to collaborate, share research findings, and promote health equity and scientific leadership with an emphasis on diversity. CSULB and BUILD faculty and research partners are encouraged to present their research in the form of an oral presentation and/or a health-related research demonstration. BUILD student participants are invited to submit abstracts for poster presentations about health disparities, behavioral and/or biomedical, or social, cultural, and environmental effects on health-related research.

Oral Presentation Guidelines
Presentation of Health-Related Behavioral or Biomedical Research
Guidelines:
- Must be CSULB faculty or a BUILD faculty partner.
- The topic of the research to be presented must be health-related.
- Faculty are encouraged to co-present with their student mentees or highlight in their presentation the work of undergraduate students that they mentored.
- Space is limited; acceptance will be given on a first come, first serve basis (with a balance between the colleges) and will depend on the diversity of health topics. We anticipate up to 4 presentations.
- The presentations will be limited to 30 minutes followed by a joint Q&A session with another presenter.

Research Demonstrations Guidelines
Demonstration of Health-Related Research
Guidelines:
- Must CSULB faculty, staff or a BUILD faculty partner.
- The topic of the research to be presented must be health-related; demonstrations must include fully mobile displays or products to showcase.
- Faculty and staff are encouraged to co-present with their student mentees.
- Space is limited; acceptance will be given on a first come, first serve basis (with a balance between the colleges) and will depend on the diversity of health topics. We anticipate 4-8 demonstrations.
- The demonstrations will be given during a single 60-minute session.

Poster Abstract Submission Guidelines
Student Posters on Health Disparities, Behavioral and/or Biomedical Research
Guidelines:
- Must be BUILD student (Associates, Scholars, or Fellows) or BUILD GA
- The topic of the research to be presented must be health-related
- This is an optional opportunity for BUILD students and GAs.
- The abstract submission is not a competitive process. All health-related posters will be considered.
- Poster presentations should be completed research, although proposed research will also be considered.
- The presentations will be limited to 30-60 minutes depending on the number of submissions.

Participants will be notified on acceptance of their abstract by Friday, February 9, 2018. Financial support for printing posters is available by request.
