CSULB BUILD SURGE

The Summer Undergraduate Research Gateway to Excellence (SURGE) is trainees’ first experience of the BUILD program at CSULB. The purpose of this 8-week program is to:

  • Orient students to the program, informing them what to expect and what will be expected of them
  • Provide hands-on research experience. Trainees begin working in the lab of their chosen research from the start.
  • Provide students with opportunities to learn to communicate about their research. SURGE culminates with the annual Summer Research Symposium where trainees present their research to friends, family, faculty, and peers.

SURGE helps set the stage for the BUILD training program, giving trainees time to acclimate to the research environment before attending classes full time in the Fall.
