Dr. Stephen Adams and MA Student Paul Burns Present Paper at Educational Technology Conference in Portugal
Dr. Stephen Adams, professor and coordinator of the Educational Technology and Media Leadership program, and Paul Burns, who is an MA student in the program, presented a paper on behalf of its four co-authors at the biennial conference of the International Organizations for Science and Technology (IOTSE). The paper, “Youth Perceptions of Science, Technology, and Engineering in Workshops at a Community Organization,” also included co-authors Dr. Elaine Bernal, lecturer in Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Dr. Lisa Martin-Hansen, chair of the Science Education department. The conference was attended by representatives of 29 countries.
The refereed paper will be published in proceedings of the conference. It extends an earlier presentation by the same authors at the National Association for Research and Science Teaching, adding qualitative analyses in addition to quantitative analyses. At the conference, Paul Burns was also elected as the representative to the IOSTE board of the North American region.
This work was part of an independent study project of Paul Burns, supervised by Dr. Adams and a project for technology in STEM education supported by Fluor, Chevron, and by a grant awarded by the CSU Collaborative for the Advancement of Linked Learning with funding from The James Irvine Foundation.
