Assessment Planning
Creating an assessment plan involves a series of related steps:
- Draft program learning outcomes. A good general rule-of-thumb is 5-7 SLOs for a program, but this can vary. The outcomes should articulate what faculty think a student should know, believe, or be able to do upon completing the program.
- Map those outcomes to the curriculum using a curriculum map to give you a sense of where you should plan to assess the outcome.
- Using the curriculum map, identify the courses or experiences (e.g., fieldwork, comprehensive exam) through which you will assess the outcome. Use this information to create an assessment plan.
- Create signature assignments and rubrics to assess candidate performance.
