CalTPA

The California Teaching Performance Assessment (CalTPA) is a state-mandated assessment for Multiple and Single Subject Credential Program candidates who were admitted to their program on or after July 1, 2008 and all Education Specialist Credential candidates who were admitted for Fall 2022 or after.

CSU Long Beach uses the state-developed California Teaching Performance Assessment (CalTPA) in its Education Specialist, Multiple and Single Subject programs. This assessment of teaching performance is designed to measure the candidate's knowledge, skills and abilities in relation to California's Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs), including demonstrating their ability to appropriately instruct all K-12 students in the state Academic Content Standards.

The CalTPA is administered by Evaluation Systems Group of Pearson. Registration for the CalTPA Cycles and submission of the CalTPA cycles is done through the California Educator Credentialing Assessments website. Candidates can find the submission and reporting dates and further information on the CalTPA at this website.

Candidates in the Education Specialist Credential Program (ESCP) receive support for the completion of the CalTPA Cycles through the EDSP 589 CalTPA Seminar Course. All ESCP student teachers are required to enroll in EDSP 589 during the semester in which they are student teaching. Through this course, ESCP students will receive instruction and support in completing the CalTPA cycles and it is expected that candidates will register for and submit both cycles of the CalTPA while enrolled in this course.

Education Specialist student teachers will receive access to the assessment materials from their EDSP 589 course instructor.

Candidates in the Multiple Subject Credential Program (MSCP) receive support for the completion of the CalTPA Cycles during their student teaching seminars with their University Supervisor as well as through workshops provided by the MSCP Coordinator throughout the semester.

Multiple Subject student teacher candidates will receive access to the assessment materials and other supporting documents during the Student Teaching Bootcamp prior to the student teaching semester beginning.

Candidates in the Single Subject Credential Program (SSCP) receive support for the completion of the CalTPA Cycles through their Student Teaching Seminar Course, EDSS 473. Through this course, SSCP students will receive instruction and support in completing the CalTPA cycles and it is expected that candidates will register for and submit both cycles of the CalTPA while enrolled in this course. The Single Subject Credential Program also offers workshops each semester for candidates currently enrolled in student teaching as well as workshops for students that have already completed the program and are still working to pass the CalTPA cycles.

Single Subject student teachers will receive access to the assessment materials from their EDSS 473 course instructor.
