IT Governance

As a vibrant and expansive center for learning and discovery, CSULB relies on a dynamic technology ecosystem. Meeting the diverse needs of the campus community requires collaborative and coordinated work among IT service providers distributed across the University.

CSULB IT Governance aims to bridge decentralized technical communities with the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) to build campus-wide IT services of value and to meet IT security, compliance, regulatory, and other mandated imperatives.

IT Governance Framework

IT Governance at CSULB involves an orchestrated approach to developing, selecting, and implementing campus-wide technology, guidelines, and solutions to safeguard and advance the university’s mission of teaching, research, and public service.

In support for the University's mission, as the steward of CSULB IT Governance, DoIT leadership establishes static and ad hoc committees and workgroups to fulfill objectives, practices, processes, and other outcomes associated with these technology governance teams. DoIT works closely with IT Governance committees and workgroups to chart and discuss strategy, implementation, and operation of associated technology initiative(s) and technical service(s). To support the sustainability of the IT Governance ecosystem, specified roles, responsibilities, functions, and deliverables inform committee and workgroup membership based on CSULB IT priorities, mandates, initiatives, and other campus necessities. Among their key areas of focus,

IT Governance committee and workgroup members work to:

  • Maintain CSU system and campus information technology, information security, and accessible technology policies and standards.
  • Support risk management & compliance by:
    • Implementing and adhering to information security and accessibility policies and standards.
    • Establishing clear roles and responsibilities in campus units/colleges to meet area IT operational needs & deliver IT services.
  • Promote data understanding and stewardship.
  • Align local IT services and central IT functions.
  • Avoid duplication of work effort and enhance customer service by coordinating technology services throughout CSULB’s decentralized technology staffing structure.
  • Maintain compliance of Federal, State, and local laws and regulations regarding the use of technology.
