Deploy Microsoft Copilot for Web to the campus community

The Division of IT implemented the Microsoft Copilot for Web tool to all CSULB faculty, staff, and students.  Microsoft Copilot for Web is a generative AI assistant designed to enhance productivity and efficiency. It leverages advanced large language models, like GPT-4, to assist users with various tasks. Microsoft Copilot for Web is integrated with Microsoft Office 365 and offers an easy-to-use conversational interface. Per CSU license agreement with Microsoft, Copilot for Web protects campus users’ data and privacy of our faculty, students and staff.  Additionally, as part of our campus Microsoft license agreement, there is no additional cost to deploy and use Microsoft Copilot for Web.

Canvas Course Copilot

This is a collaborative project between the Division of IT and College of Business Marketing Faculty.  The project goal is to integrate MS Copilot into the campus learning management system, Canvas to create a virtual course assistant.  The virtual assistant, embedded in Canvas, provides students with real-time, personalized support by accessing course materials and performance data. It creates customized quizzes, study materials, and offers tailored guidance, making learning more accessible and engaging.  It can also explain abstract concepts in easy-to-understand language with examples.

AI Virtual Assistant

The Division of IT has developed a technology virtual assistant that leverages AI.  This tool can be accessed by the campus community anywhere and at any time using the virtual support option on the Technology Helpdesk Webpage. On-campus users can leverage this tool at one of our virtual kiosks on-campus. Once selected, the tool will connect users by video call to a live staff member. Discussions on collaborative opportunities with other student support organizations are currently taking place to improve one-stop student support options beyond the exclusive technology support feature.

Text Bot

The Division of IT is working with University Relations & Development to deliver a text bot to enhance customer options for Commencement. Graduates and their families will be able to text a toll-free number and will be provided with informational options including directions, ticketing information, ceremony detail and other pertinent information. The text bot provides another means of customer support for campus customers who prefer to interact via text message. The system will use a combination of set answers and AI informed content to provide information.

Integrated Voice Response (IVR)

The Division of IT is working with Financial Management to deliver an integrated voice response system that leverages AI to deliver relevant content to callers. This proof-of-concept project will leverage call reporting data to effectively answer callers’ questions. The system will also be able to route callers to appropriate parties for more efficient customer service.

Enhanced AI Development

The Division of IT is working to provide campus AI developers with a platform where they can perform their development leveraging Microsoft’s AI infrastructure. This will democratize responsible AI development within the campus technical community. Future phases will explore advanced tools for citizen AI development for business and instructional purposes.

Ocelot Chatbot

The Division of IT is working with Ocelot to deliver AI capabilities for the campus-wide chatbot currently in production on multiple customer-facing webpages including Enrollment Services and the Technology Help Desk. Leveraging AI will streamline information delivery for service providers and will ensure our chatbot is trained to better assist customers.
