COTA Student Ambassadors

Student Ambassadors are representatives of the College of the Arts; the program serves as an opportunity for students to become more academically aware, acclimated to the School of Art and CSULB, and aware of resources and events in hopes of becoming involved in school activities. Students may meet with our Art Ambassadors for advising assistance with searching for courses, creating a schedule, information regarding academic due dates, and other academic information. Ambassadors will also provide mentor support for students new to the School of Art.

COB Peer Advising

College of Business Peer Advisors serve first-year, COB freshman students by helping them navigate, explore, and build communities at the Beach. Advisors support students in establishing personal/ professional goals and graduating in a timely manner through one-on-one support, workshops, and outreach events.

COB Tutoring

College of Business peer educators assist undergraduate COB students with their courses in one-on-one tutoring sessions; educators also host workshops and group sessions for exam prep and review.

Caminos Learning Community

The program primarily serves CSULB students interested in teaching who are Latinx (Hispanic) and low-income; it is open to undergraduate and credential (post-baccalaureate) students. The program aims to build peer networks and encourage professional development with cultural, social, and academic learning opportunities. Peer Mentors are available to help students succeed by providing tutoring, assisting with course searches, adjusting schedules, keeping track of and sending reminders for academic deadlines, and offering professional/academic/personal support throughout students' academic journey.

Beach Engineering Students Success Team (BESST)

The program supports first-year, freshman engineering students; students will join a cohort of fellow teachers and peers and be provided supplemental tutoring (specifically for underrepresented students whose math preparation is not at the Calculus I level). The program encourages academic success and camaraderie among students while connecting participants to university facilities and resources.

EXCEL

The Excellence Through a Community of Engaged Learners (EXCEL) program provides mentoring and tutoring opportunities in a learning community for freshman and transfer engineering students. The program also offers STEM upper division students a paid opportunity to serve as ambassadors for their college by mentoring and tutoring STEM freshmen and transfer students during the academic year.

CLA Internship Ambassador Program

College of Liberal Arts students interested in or completing an internship will be connected with an upper division CLA student ambassador to provide resources, information, and support during the internship experience.

EXCEL

The Excellence Through a Community of Engaged Learners (EXCEL) program provides mentoring and tutoring opportunities in a learning community for freshman and transfer engineering students. The program also offers STEM upper division students a paid opportunity to serve as ambassadors for their college by mentoring and tutoring STEM freshmen and transfer students during the academic year.

Learning Assistants in Physics

The Physics Learning Assistants are undergraduate students who, with the guidance of course instructors, provide free academic support to their peers in PHYS 151 and other physics and math courses, strengthening their own understanding of the course material in the process.

METRIC

The Mentored Excellence Towards Research and Industry Careers (METRIC) scholarship program aims to improve recruitment, retention, and graduation of low-income and academically talented students from communities unrepresented in the Physical Sciences and Mathematics to prepare them to be the next generation of scientific leaders in their communities. Full-time CNSM students can apply to receive need-based scholarships and participate in activities designed to facilitate their scholastic and professional development and to prepare them for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

Honors Peer Mentors

The Honors Peer Mentoring Program (HPMP) is designed to enhance the first-year experience of incoming University Honors students. HPMP provides support and resources to encourage student engagement and maintain academic achievement throughout the year.
