Dr. Jessica Pandya Awarded ORSP Multidisciplinary Research Grant
Congratulations to Dr. Jessica Pandya and Dr. Gwen Shaffer (College of Liberal Arts) on receiving the ORSP Multidisciplinary Research Grant. Their project, “Teachers’ use of apps and platforms: Examining practices, concepts, and data privacy awareness,” will create a pilot project with Long Beach Unified School District and allow Drs. Pandya and Shaffer to apply for federal funding in support of a larger project.
Dr. Pandya shares about the ORSP-funded project, “The research is grounded in the conviction that even inadvertent data privacy violations committed by educational apps and online services have the potential to harm students. Our project will contribute to Science, Technology and Society (STS) studies by identifying how users can intervene in the choices technology designers make for them.”
