- Approval of Minutes from 9/6/2024
- Minutes approved
- Minutes will be sent to Danny Ames after approval, with tracked changes accepted and markup removed.
- College RTP Policy Revision Updates:
- Instruction: Ashley and Ben
- It was discussed that people who are not teaching or have a light teaching load the semester that they’re going up should arrange to have committee member visits the semester before if necessary.
- CBA states that committee should discuss visits ahead of time, but has not been happening (section 15.14).
- Text will be added to college doc about the conversation between visitor and candidate.
- Kelly Young: 5 day notice is not consistently followed across departments.
- Discussion of including language about CBA wording changes, as well as "must" vs "shall."
- CBA has no language about actually assessing teaching. We have forms for lecturer evaluation; Jen-Mei Chang tried to institute something for faculty but it did not move forward. It is suggested that such policies be departmental. Wording for college document to be written by Carter and sent out for consideration.
- Mentoring 496 students: Young mentions inconsistency between putting students under teaching vs research. Bio is the only dept that puts it in teaching. It is mentioned that if faculty receive teaching units for it, it should be under teaching. Dean's rec: list/number students in PDS/CV.
- It is suggested we go back to the University policy and write something consistent with it regarding where mentoring goes.
- RSCA: Alex and Raisa
- University policy integrated into CNSM policy, with new sections that we thought should be added based on CC discussions.
- Additions in blue are approved or discussed one by one (see associated document, included CB comments). More detailed discussions mentioned below.
- Discussion about whether requirement of peer review is consistent with University policy about broad audiences, as well as Earth Science issues with non-refereed technical reports. Sentence about peer review is removed from 2.3.1.
- Discussion on how to word the proviso about co-authorship in 2.3.2.2. It was removed and passed to departments.
- Service: Amy and Deepali
- Amy requests to survey the college about issues of cultural taxation and/or hidden labor. Discussion is otherwised tabled.
- Timeline/Early Tenure/Procedural: Lihan and Jeff
- It was discussed that people who are not teaching or have a light teaching load the semester that they’re going up should arrange to have committee member visits the semester before if necessary.
