Salim Alani
Salim Alani, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology at CSULB. He completed his B.A. with a double major in Journalism and Political Science at Indiana University, Bloomington. Also, while at Indiana University, Bloomington, he earned his M.S. in Instructional Systems Technology. He earned his Ph.D. from the School of Communication Science and Disorders at Florida State University, Tallahassee. His research interests include investigating normal and abnormal swallowing in healthy young and older adults and in clinical populations. More specifically, he utilizes specialized software and hardware to measure with precision and quantify pulse oximetry (PO) levels during the time of the swallow in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Additionally, he has participated in research related to cultural and linguistic diversity, cultural competence, international alliances and collaborations, as well as issues related to interpreters and translators for speech-language pathologists.
