Pei-Fang Hung

Pei-Fang Hung, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is a Professor and Interim Vice Provost for Academic Programs at California State University, Long Beach. Her research interests are aphasia management, neurogenic cognitive-communication disorders, and language impairments related to early dementia. Dr. Hung’s teaching and research interests include aphasia management, neurogenic cognitive-communication disorders, and language impairments related to early dementia. Dr. Hung earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Oregon and Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation and Communication Disorders from the Chung Shan Medical University in Taiwan. She is a trilingual speech-language pathologist who holds certificates and licenses in both the U.S. and Taiwan. She has extensive clinical experience working with people with neurogenic speech and language disorders.

Between January 2020 and June 2024, Dr. Hung serves as the Department Chair in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), where she successfully leads department operations, such as expanding the CSULB Speech and Language Clinic, restructuring both graduate and undergraduate curriculum, leading external accreditation reviews, and promoting student and faculty success. 

Dr. Hung’s service goes beyond her department, having also served the CSULB Academic Senate (AS) since 2015 and on the AS Executive Committee since 2019. In the Academic Senate, Dr. Hung served in many roles including Academic Senate at-large member, Secretary, Vice Chair, and Chair since 2022. As Academic Senate Chair, she has led the creation and review of policies, practices, and procedures in matters of academic and professional concern. She is committed to facilitating and promoting inclusive dialogues across units and stakeholders, moving curriculum and policy work forward, and becoming resourceful to The Beach when it comes to matters related to academic policies. Her service also extends beyond the CSULB. Dr. Hung has served on the Multicultural Issues Board (MIB) of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) from 2017-19 and as Secretary of California’s Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CA CAPCSD) since 2022. She also served as the external program reviewer for other CSU SLP programs. She is the recipient of the CSULB 2019 Distinguished Teaching Award and the 2024 Nicholas Perkins Hardeman Academic Leadership Award.
