The Mission of the Center for Disability Studies & Scholarship (CDSS) is to provide a sustainable platform that supports multidisciplinary and intergenerational collaboration focusing upon innovative problem solving in the areas of education, research and training that enhances the quality of life of persons with disabilities.
Vision Statement
The Vision of the Center for Disability Studies & Scholarship (CDSS) is to advance the Health, Education and Social Justice for all Persons with Disabilities.
Values
Provide a sustainable platform that supports multidisciplinary and intergenerational collaboration focusing upon innovative problem-solving in the areas of education, research, and training that enhances the quality of life of persons with disabilities.
These values can be supported through the attainment of the following:
- Increase recruitment, retention, and successful graduation of students with disabilities in STEM Disciplines
- Facilitate and support career goal attainment among students with disabilities
- Inclusion of students with disabilities in the development of assistive technology and robotics
- Increase creativity and skills for entrepreneurship among students with disabilities
- Reduce unnecessary institutionalization of persons with disabilities
- Reduce risk factors associated with premature onset of chronic diseases among persons with disabilities
- Foster a healthy lifestyle through health promotion and risk reduction activities among persons with disabilities
