Marissa Moreno, a student at Moorpark Community College, is trying to decide which teacher preparation program is right for her.

 Dr. Angelica Loera Suarez, the president of Orange Coast College, has received a prestigious national award for her work supporting student success — work inspired by her experience as a first-generation, immigrant Cal State Long Beach student.

Three College of Education students researching better ways to teach, counsel and close achievement gaps among struggling students earned first, second and third place finishes in the 36th annual Cal State Long Beach Student Research Competition earlier this month.

This is part of our series "Faculty Research: Short and sweet," where College of Education faculty share their latest work.

An overwhelming majority of recent graduates believe the College of Education prepares them well for jobs in education and counseling but could do more to help all students feel supported and to help them grapple with some considerable challenges. 

When Nat Hansuvadha was a special education teacher 20-plus years ago, she felt powerless to make the changes she believed would best help her students, especially including them academically and socially in more general ed programs.
