Library Strategic Plan
Priorities & Associated Goals, 2023-2027
Strategic Priority One:
Invest in organizational and employee growth through a culture of professional development and skill building that embodies the mission of the university.
Goals:
- Assess & encourage current skill competency
- Create a plan of cross-training and sharing skill sets
- Recruit Library personnel with capable & complementary skill sets
- Implement & execute training
Strategic Priority Two:
Enhance the resilience of the building, services, collections, and personnel by pursuing opportunities to expand funding and support sustainable growth.
Goals:
- Create a disaster preparedness plan with flow charts for various scenarios, that includes a schedule for regular updating
- Create documentation for current library processes with scheduled updating
- Create and identify spending priorities under typical, austerity, and windfall budget scenarios
- Create a strategic development plan that strengthens relationships with University Relations & Development and the Office of Research and Economic Development
Strategic Priority Three:
Create and support open and inclusive communication pathways that foster and support trust, authenticity, and transparency so that all library voices are valued.
Goals:
- Implement a communication network where all personnel have access (e.g. Teams)
- Implement an anonymous portal where all personnel can provide feedback, submit ideas, and ask questions of library administration (to be addressed in monthly meetings)
- Facilitate interpersonal skills workshops to foster mindful and respectful communication
- Increase the frequency of communication between library departments including explaining the “why” of library decisions (cross representation in committees)
Strategic Priority Four:
Be an integral part of the University through collaboration with the campus and our community.
Goals:
- Create a liaison team made up of library personnel to participate/coordinate in outreach initiatives
- Develop a living/active/current/regularly updated contact list for relevant units in the Division of Student Affairs (Multicultural Center, Student Success Center, ASI, etc.)
- Create a campus-wide instruction plan
- Develop an annual programming plan of activities, exhibits, and events with input from all library personnel
- Open up reservable spaces for student group meetings
Strategic Priority Five:
Committing to library services and decisions that are influenced by campus community input and data.
Goals:
- Analyze existing quantitative data (SpringShare products, database usage, ILL, etc.)
- Gather / collect new quantitative data (e.g. LibQual)
- Gather / collect qualitative data (focus groups, surveys, usability studies, interviews)
Strategic Priority Six:
Develop learning spaces that are intuitive and inclusive to foster inquiry and engagement.
Goals:
- Study best practices in digital & physical spaces
- Assess signage needs (via students)
- Conduct usability testing of the website
- Conduct usability analysis of physical space
