Black History Month Recap: The Power of Performance
Among the many activities held during the celebration of Black History Month, the Long Beach Honeys Dance Team and members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) at CSULB demonstrated their unity, talent, and cultural expression in a series of dynamic performances. In addition to campus events, students were also invited to perform at city-wide gatherings, high schools, and other community events. These unforgettable performances showcased the incredible talent within our community, serving as a reminder of the hard work and effort students put into reminding others of the power, creativity, and diversity of Black culture.
On Saturday, February 22, 2025, the men’s basketball team dedicated a portion of their halftime show to the Long Beach Honeys and NPHC. The Honeys brought the crowd to their feet with a captivating dance routine that blended jazz and majorette movements. Their performance celebrated Black artistry through powerful and graceful expressions of movement. Following the Honeys performance, NPHC fraternities and sororities took the court to deliver high-energy steps and strolls. Through intricate movements and rhythmic chants, the deep traditions of Black fraternities and sororities filled the Walter Pyramid.
The Long Beach Honeys Dance Team was invited to the first-ever Black History Month Celebration at The Queen Mary. The weekend began on February 21, when the team had the opportunity to perform and share their mission live on Fox News Good News LA. On February 23, the dancers kicked off the event with four dynamic performances, showcasing Hip-Hop, Majorette, Reggae, and Jazz. The president of the group, Yael Moore, aims to create a space for African American women to cultivate their passion for dance on their own campus. This historic gathering was truly a milestone for The Long Beach Honeys at Cal State Long Beach.
