Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management: Option in Risk Management and Safety

The Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration with option in Risk Management and Safety is designed to provide students with the advanced and highly sought-after expertise needed in the field of health care management, health sciences, fire and paramedic and law enforcement. The option provides training to prepare students to apply the concepts of risk management and public safety within an organization and the regulatory environment. This option will provide a transdisciplinary undergraduate degree that will empower students with technical, managerial, and problem-solving skills while offering a balance between theory and application by illustrating the holistic dynamics of social, economic, occupational and environmental risk exposures for healthcare facilities, privacy and security, business, and technical systems. 

Admission decisions are based on the following requirements: 

  • Pre-requisites for degree -- to be considered for admission to the major, applicants must demonstrate completion of ECON 101, ACCT 201 and one of the following courses:
    • SOC 170 or STAT 108 or STAT 118 or PSY 110 or HDEV 190
  • An overall grade point average of 2.5 or higher is required for entrance into the program. A minimum grade of "C" is required for each prerequisite course. 

The program's requirements are comprised of a 120-unit for undergraduate degree, lock-step sequence of courses covering three core components: i) developing an advanced understanding of sustainability in the health care risk management and policy realms; ii) acquiring data analytics, systems analysis and design skills to tackle real-world problems in business and policy; and iii) demonstrating competency through a culminating project in which students interact with local leaders to identify improvement opportunities and develop sustainability-based solutions.
