Brian Cole, DrPH, MPH
Brian Cole, DrPH, is an assistant professor in the Department of Health Science California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). After earning DrPH and MPH degrees in Community Health Sciences at UCLA he worked as a researcher and research project manager and most recently as a faculty member in the Environmental Health Sciences Department in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. With his expertise bridging environmental and community health sciences, Dr. Cole works on bringing community engagement methods and community capacity building approaches to tackling environmental health problems for healthier communities, homes, schools, and workplaces. Dr. Cole has been at the vanguard of advancing health impact assessment (HIA) in the U.S., leading interdisciplinary teams to conduct HIAs on a wide range of proposed policies and projects from gas taxes and living wage policies to rainforest protection in the Congo Basin and California’s High-Speed Rail Project. Dr. Cole is particularly interested in identifying and advancing climate adaptation measures that yield public health co-benefits.
