Summer Sessions for CSULB Students
This section of the website is for current or newly admitted CSULB students who are seeking information on summer courses at CSULB.
If you are not a CSULB student, please visit the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPaCE) summer session website for information.
Summer classes at CSULB are offered during multiple sessions. Some classes are scheduled for the entire summer and others are scheduled during six-week sessions at the beginning or end of the summer. Summer classes are administered through the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPaCE). Units earned during summer sessions appear on CSULB transcripts.
Since summer classes are administered through CPaCE and are not state-supported, classes offered in the summer have a different fee structure than fall and spring semesters. See Summer Tuition and Fees for more information. Ed.D. students and MBA students (Special State-Supported Graduate Programs) have a different fee structure.

Registration Information
The maximum number of units a student may enroll in during the summer is one unit per week, plus one additional unit. Therefore, the maximum number of units is normally seven for one six-week session, 10 for two overlapping sessions, and 13 for an entire summer.
Once enrolled, you may make changes to your schedule as needed until the last day of self-service registration (refer to Summer Session Dates and Deadlines). After self-service registration ends, registration and adjustments are by approval only.
Before the session begins, be sure to check your class schedule to make sure you're enrolled in the correct classes.
Continuing students can register for classes online using MyCSULB Student Center from their registration appointment time until the day before the start of each summer session.
Starting the first day of the session, students who wish to add a class must complete the online Permission to Add request through MyCSULB Student Center. Class instructor and department approval is required. Instructors of classes of short duration will only approve requests if submitted early in the session.
The deadline to pay your fees depends on when you registered. You are responsible for confirming your account balance and payment due date on MyCSULB Student Center whenever you make a change to your schedule.
If you have not satisfied a university requirement or condition, a hold may be placed on your student record that may restrict access to certain services, such as registering for and dropping classes. When a hold is placed on your record, it appears in MyCSULB Student Center in the Holds section.
Each hold will include a description and information about how to resolve the hold. Follow the instructions to remove the hold. Once you have satisfied the requirement or condition to remove the hold and the university has processed the update, your hold will be removed from your record and will no longer be listed in MyCSULB Student Center.
More information:
If you no longer plan to participate in a class that you are enrolled in, you must drop or withdraw from the class. The process to drop or withdraw will vary depending on when you decide to do so:
- Before the first day of the session, you may drop one or more classes using MyCSULB Student Center.
- Starting the first day of the session, to drop a course, you will need to submit a Summer Session Registration Form, which is available through CPaCE. Instructor permission is required to drop a course after the session begins.
- After the drop deadline, you will need to request to withdraw.
- Refer to Summer Session Dates and Deadlines for the deadlines to drop and withdraw from classes in each session.
You can add yourself to the waitlist for a class until two weeks before the first day of classes for the session. After the deadline, waitlists are no longer used. Refer to Summer Dates and Deadlines for the waitlist deadline for each summer session.
Special State-Supported Programs (Ed.D. and MBA)
Students in Special Summer State-Supported Programs (Ed.D. and MBA) should review the Summer Tuition and Fees information specifically for their programs. Financial aid may be available to continuing CSULB students to assist with summer sessions costs. For the available aid programs, general eligibility requirements, and application process, please refer to Summer Financial Aid.
