2021 Team Building at Camp Fire Long Beach

Published September 14, 2021

The METRIC program welcomed 17 students (7 students joined in 2020 and 2021) to the program on September 3, 2021 in Camp Fire Long Beach with a series of low-rope team-building activities. This was the first time the students and faculty met in-person since March, 2020. It was so refreshing to interact with each other face-to-face since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The purposes of the event were meant to:

  1. build camaraderie.
  2. allow students to discover their inner strengths and apply those strengths through structured activities.
  3. provide a safe environment to stimulate students' leadership, problem-solving, and team-working skills.
  4. encourage students to seek help when needed.

The group strategized a way to get the ball through everyone's hand with the fastest time. The group ended up finishing it with the best record of 5.83 seconds.

Sometimes taking a risk might lead to a surprising success; although, it didn't pay off this time. It was fun to try though.

Magic Stones Activity: the team worked together to get everyone across an imaginary sea by strategically laying down the magic stones while touching the stones at all times. Team-work and asking for help are the essence in this activity.
