Previous Projects: Cambodian Tobacco Research Initiative
The Department of Health Science at CSULB and the Cambodian Association of America in Long Beach received a $106,456 pilot Community Academic Research Award (CARA) from the Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program (TRDRP), which resulted in the development of an academic/community collaborative partnership called the Cambodian Tobacco Research Initiative (CTRI). The research addressed three major issues with respect to tobacco use among the Cambodian American population in Long Beach, CA:
- Patterns of tobacco use
- Factors that influence smoking patterns
- Smoking prevention strategies

The Department of Health Science received a three-year $664,425 Community Academic Research Award (CARA) from the Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program to continue the Cambodian Tobacco Research Initiative (CTRI), an ongoing collaborative effort between the CSULB Department of Health Science and the Cambodian Association of America in Long Beach. This academic/community collaborative partnership examined the prevalence of cigarette smoking among Cambodian American adults in Long Beach, CA.
