Health and Tech

Each spring, the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE) at California State University Long Beach engages the entire campus in a free technology event designed to prepare students to live and work in an increasingly technology driven world. On March 1, 2019, this year’s focus is Health and Tech--an interactive introduction to innovations in health and technology. We define health broadly to include physical and mental health. Attendees will participate in hands on exploration where they wear, touch, and fully immerse themselves in health and tech experiences including but not limited to accelerometers, and virtual reality. Other engagements include a keynote, panels, and speed informational interviews with experts and employers in the field.

Friday, March 1st from 8:30am- 7pm will feature technology demos and panel discussions.

All of us have been or at some point will be health patients. Health and Tech is designed to move us beyond being passive consumers of health technologies to becoming critical users and possibly developers of the technologies. Health and Tech is also an excellent intersection for exploring the social impact of health technologies and how users of various ethnicities, ages, abilities, genders, and economic access engage it differently. Finally, the health and tech industry requires contributors with varying skills including the health professions, health administration, kinesiology, physical therapy, social work, gerontology, computer programming, design, storytelling (English and Journalism), communication, public relations, psychology, sociology, women’s gender, and sexuality studies, and more!

Of course! However, there will be several Virtual Reality (VR) experiences. VR is a new technology that may cause some individuals physical or emotional discomfort. If you experience seizures, loss of awareness, eye strain or twitching, altered vision or visual abnormalities, dizziness, disorientation, migraines, impaired balance or any symptoms similar to motion sickness, please discontinue use! We also recommend that children under the age of 13 do not wear VR headsets.

Yes, Health and Tech Day is free for all attendees. CSULB campus members as well as the greater Long Beach community are welcome.

Thinking minds need fuel! We will provide meals at the Duncan Anderson Gallery. Refreshments will be available throughout the event.

It is not mandatory to participate for the whole day. However, space will be limited so we recommend that you RSVP online. Programming will be offered at several locations in lower campus so you can build your own schedule. We highly recommend that you download our event app to access the schedule and receive notifications throughout the day. (app link will be provided soon).

We recommend that you bring your charged smartphone. Some demos will require you to download applications to run programming.

Campus Parking is $9 for the day. Foundation parking is close to the Duncan Anderson Gallery located at 6300 E State University D Ste 332, Long Beach, CA 90815. You may also visit CSULB's transportation website for eco-friendly ways to arrive to the event.
