Benefits of the Program

Students who become PREM scholars are eligible for the following opportunities:

  • The opportunity to conduct original research with faculty mentors in Material Science and to interact with professors and graduate students at both CSULB and OSU.
  • Employment as a research assistant.
  • Support for summer research.
  • Opportunities to interact with outstanding researchers at OSU through summer research experiences and site visits.
  • Opportunities to present research at national and international conferences (all expenses covered by the program).
  • Training in preparing a competitive application package for applying to graduate and Ph.D. programs in Material Science.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at CSULB.
  • Major in physics, biochemistry, chemistry or mathematics.
  • Have identified a research group of interest (See: Research Overview).
  • Committed to participating in the program for 12-24 consecutive months.
  • U.S. citizen, national or permanent resident.
  • Committed to attending a Ph.D. program after graduation.
