2023 Fall Welcome
Fourteen METRIC students and eight program personnel attended the welcome orientation on September 2, 2023, at The Growing Experience Urban Farm in Long Beach. The day started with a meet-and-greet and introduction then launched into a campus resource Jeopardy game where discipline teams try to connect campus resources with various academic and mental wellness agendas.
Students and faculty got to connect deeper through a series of activities (building aquaponics, yoga and meditation, and fruit-picking). There was plenty of down time for the participants to just talk and enjoy a shared experience. The program concluded with students and faculty mentors creating a vision board. Through artistic and creative expressions, participants reflected on and shared the next steps of their professional and personal journey.
The purposes of the event were meant to:
- build camaraderie.
- bring awareness to campus resources.
- provide knowledge and strategies to reduce stress.
- provide students in-person opportunities to build relationship with discipline mentors and peers.
- disperse program information.
