Removing Barriers to STEM Careers

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program at California State University Long Beach is part of the statewide effort CSU-LSAMP to enhance the math and science skills of students who have faced or face social, educational, or economic barriers, and are majoring in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM).

Program Components

The goal of Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is to support students as they successfully complete their academic degree program and enhancing their futures in the STEM disciplines.

Students can apply to the general LSAMP program at any time. The application period for the funded programs, Research Fellows and Summer Research, is typically around March.

General LSAMP Program

General LSAMP program members are eligible for:

  • Textbook reimbursement.
  • GRE and graduate application fee reimbursement.
  • LSAMP-specific scholarships.
  • International research opportunities.

Research Fellows

LSAMP Research Fellows conduct funded research during the academic year, in addition to enjoying the benefits of general LSAMP membership.

Summer Research

LSAMP Summer Research Participants conduct funded research during the summer term, in addition to enjoying the benefits of general LSAMP membership.
