Your Future

Knowledge cannot advance without communication, and translation is a fundamental tool in the movement and transfer of knowledge. The need for qualified professionals in every field who understand the theoretical and practical aspects of translation as the epistemology that best defines globalization is growing.

Your work in the certificate will provide training in the practices of applied and theoretical research in translation for this growing profession, as well as the competencies needed for continued study at the post-baccalaureate level in master’s degree or doctoral programs.

The need for skilled translators supported through professional education can be seen in nearly every sector: healthcare, public service, banking and finance, entertainment and news media, law, social work, travel and hospitality, big tech, the production of transportation vehicles, and the list goes on.

The prospects for employment for translators, interpreters, and linguists over the next decade is excellent, with significant increases in demand—24% faster than average—according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The California Employment Development Department projects that employment for interpreters and translators will grow by 20.9% in Los Angeles County (Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale Metropolitan Divisions) from 2018 to 2028.
