No Barriers Campaign Bolsters Beach 2030
Bold and ambitious, the Beach 2030 movement is characterized by actions that orient CSULB to the future, affirming our place as a national model for student access, upward mobility, and engagement across numerous disciplines.
The No Barriers campaign, a $275 million fundraising effort to realize CSULB’s promise of a transformative education, bolsters the mission behind Beach 2030 through visionary opportunities to expand access to higher education. At a time when students are entering college with more need for support than in recent memory, the No Barriers campaign is how we, together, are rising to affirm our legacy, serve our students, and ensure that the State of California continues to lead the nation in health care, education, sustainable practices, equity, and innovation.
To that end, the spirit of No Barriers is put into focus through its priorities — three declarations that serve to capitalize on our most exciting opportunities while addressing the pressing needs of our time. These statements direct resources to create a national model for student achievement, empowerment, and equity; to shape California’s future workforce; and to elevate our community and advance the public good.
The Road to 2030
In 2018, CSULB leaders set out to imagine how the oncoming decade might test existing practices and beliefs about our institution and higher education as a whole. We could never predict then how valuable this exercise in futures-thinking would be, when just a couple years later the pandemic would force everyone to reconsider what they think they know about systems that once appeared so ingrained, so permanent.
The Beach 2030 strategic plan is a product of this unique time of reflection and foresight. Through its five strategic priorities, we are declaring how CSULB will focus its time, energy, and attention on what we believe is important, while leaving space to be responsive to the forces shaping the next decade of challenges and opportunities.
The priorities articulated in the No Barriers campaign are precisely aligned with each named value and priority laid out in the Beach 2030 plan, but perhaps most with efforts to expand access, which pointedly declare our commitment to students’ socioeconomic mobility by removing barriers to higher education.
Hitting its Mark
CSULB’s No Barriers fundraising effort is a critical piece of our overall strategic planning by amplifying our mission to a broad swath of generous partners. Highlighting successful programs and initiatives made possible with these gifts has been a focus for the team leading the campaign, who publish regular stories online showcasing students directly benefiting from the efforts.
To date, the campaign is over 90% to its goal — a testament to the strength of our university’s partnerships and the vision that this campaign represents.
Through No Barriers and Beach 2030, CSULB is rethinking what it means to serve our students, our community, and the public good for all.
