Caltrans Construction Starting August 24
Caltrans is making improvements on State Route 22 (SR-22/7th Street). Construction will begin August 24, 2017 and continue through winter 2018. Work will involve rehabilitating the pavement on both east- and westbound directions. Additional improvements include curb ramp upgrades, installing new pedestrian push buttons, new loop detectors, and restriping. For more information see Caltrans Construction Notice.
West Circle Workaround
Resources for Navigating the West Circle Closure
With faculty returning to campus next week, traffic will intensify as usual, and potentially be exacerbated by the West Circle closure and Caltrans construction on SR-22/7th Street. Moreover, when students return on August 28, congestion on Atherton Street will increase greatly. Several resources are available to assist you with entering and parking on campus.
The Los Coyotes and West Loop Shuttles will experience detours around the West Campus Circle during construction operations. In addition, an Express Shuttle will begin service on August 21 to help expedite shuttle passengers to/from south campus. Learn more at our shuttle webpage.
Employee "workaround" routes have been developed to suggest the most efficient routes depending on how you approach campus and your desired employee lot.
- West Circle Workaround - 405 North - Staff
- West Circle Workaround - 405 South - Staff
- West Circle Workaround - 22 West - Staff
As always, sustainable transporation methods are encouraged, such as buses, bicycles and walking. It is almost certain you will experience a longer commute time if coming to the campus in a vehicle. Please leave plenty of time to get to your destination!

Innovative Financing Model
Makes Campus First Phase of Clean Energy Project Possible
Curious about how the solar panels in parking lots 7 and 14 were funded? Contrary to what many might assume, these exciting clean energy projects were not financed through parking permits or student fees. Instead, the university is leveraging an innovative mechanism called a Power Purchase Agreement. Learn more about it on the campus Sustainability website.
