Fall 2023 Major-Specific Degree Requirements (College of Health and Human Services)
While first-year students may be admitted directly into some majors, many majors require that students begin as “pre-majors” and then meet precise major-specific degree criteria to official declare the major. These criteria include meeting all major-specific degree requirements in the new major and demonstrating a progressively successful academic history that reflects potential success in the major. Upon declaration of major, students must adopt the requirements of the major and any minors in effect at that time in the CSULB Catalog.
All undergraduate students must have a declared major by the time they earn 60 units. This applies equally to students who are:
- Undeclared or pre-major (refer to Declare a Major)
- Requesting to change or add a major (refer to Change of Major)
Browse the following list to find the current major-specific degree requirements for your intended major. Some majors are highly impacted and will be indicated as such. Major-specific degree requirements are subject to change in future terms.
Athletic Training is a highly impacted program.
To be considered for admission to the major, applicants must demonstrate the following. Applicants must submit a separate program application to the CSULB Athletic Training Education Program. See the CSULB Athletic Training Education Program web site for the separate program application and deadlines. Nursing BSN Basic is a highly impacted program.
To be considered for admission to the major, applicants must submit a separate nursing school application demonstrating completed coursework below along with the results of the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) offered by Assessment Technologies Institute www.atitesting.com. In reviewing applications, a personal profile is developed for each applicant based on pre–requisite science GPA, pre-requisite non-science courses (listed below) and the TEAS test. The pre–requisite science courses GPA is given more weight, with typical courses being 3.25 or higher and no grades below “C.” Applicants with the highest profile scores are invited to participate in a live communication exercise. The results of the communication exercise are added to the profile and students with the top profiles are selected for admission. The number of admitted students is limited by space availability. It is anticipated that about 80 students will be admitted each fall and spring from hundreds of applications. Additional information about the admissions review process and statistics on those accepted to the major is available on the School of Nursing website.
