Wood Program
Program Head: Ryan Taber
The Wood program (formerly general crafts) offers a BFA degree at the Undergraduate level, and both the MA and MFA at the graduate level. The wood concentration has flourished for approximately twenty years but until recently was not able to offer a BFA degree. Fiber, Metal and Wood now offer specialized degrees in each concentration and offer an Integrated Media Degree, which allows an individual to combine all three of the areas. The wood program has well maintained wood-working facilities for those interested in furniture design and construction. Although approximately half of our students are furniture oriented, the area also serves students interested in exploring the combination of a variety of materials and ideas in both functional and non-functional objects. This flexibility has helped provide a vital creative context and has served our graduates well for over twenty years. Our graduates are creative problem- solvers and consequently work in a variety of fields upon graduation: Concept Designers for large corporations, Furniture Designers for industry, One Off furniture makers, Special Effects Designers and Production Designers for film, College professors, and Display and Exhibition Designers.
