Dario Valles, an assistant professor in the Department of Chicano and Latino Studies at Cal State Long Beach, spoke with CALÓ News about the history and causes of femicide in Mexico. Valles said violence against women in Mexico developed as crimes of opportunity when women became more visible as they began working outside the home at the end of the 20th century.
