Yevgeniya Mikhailik
Yevgeniya Mikhailik is an artist, educator and curator based in Southern California. Approaching illustration as both a communication and a research tool, Yevgeniya combines observational drawing, abstracted landscapes, imagined plant forms and botanical micrographs to engage with the emergent research on plant neurobiology. Her drawing-based practice looks at plant intelligence through the complementary lenses of scientific inquiry and imagination, revealing an expanded dimension of plant life.
Yevgeniya has taught illustration and drawing at CSULB, CSUF, Saddleback College and Pasadena City College, and was a Teaching Artist at the UCI Langson Institute and Museum of California Art. Prior to teaching, she held curatorial positions at CSUF Grand Central Art Center and the Irvine Fine Arts Center. She had exhibited her work extensively throughout Southern California, as well as in New York, San Francisco, Rome and Jeddah. Her studio and curatorial practices have been highlighted by KCET Artbound, LA Times, Art and Cake, Artscene, Artillery Magazine, Hi-Fructose, Brenda Magazine (UK), OC Weekly, Orange Coast Magazine, Bluecanvas and CMYK Magazine, as well as several exhibition catalogs and other publications. Yevgeniya’s illustration and mural clients include Diptyque, Palm Springs Art Museum, Orange County Great Park, Spider Magazine and Slice Magazine, among others.
