Research Focus

At the CoHaBiT PsyLing Lab our research is dedicated to exploring the interplay between cognitive processes, emotionality, and technology in the context of languages, translation, and interpreting. Our work spans three interconnected domains:

VR & AI IN TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING

Cognitive Processes and Emotionality in Bilingualism: We investigate how different bilingual populations process and manage two or more languages within their cognitive systems, as well as how bilinguals organize their emotional space in their first versus second language.

Cognitive and Emotional Dimensions of Translation and Interpreting: Our studies explore the mental and emotional demands of translation and interpreting tasks. We aim to understand how professional expertise modulates the cognition of translators and interpreters and how emotional content in texts or speeches influences decision-making and performance.

Integration of AI and Virtual Reality (VR) in Translation, Interpreting, and Language Learning: We explore the transformative role of emerging technologies in language-related fields. Our focus includes examining the cognitive and emotional impacts of interacting with AI- and VR-driven systems in professional and educational settings.

Our research aims to:

  • Inform linguistic policies through the consideration of the cognitive and emotional dimensions of languages and cultures.

  • Inform translation and interpreting pedagogy by addressing the cognitive and emotional factors involved in the professional task.

  • Explore how to balance technological advances in the language service industry with human emotions, fostering accessibility and emotional sustainability among professionals, intermediaries, and clients.
