Our Mission & Vision
Mission
The Cohabit PsyLing Lab is a dynamic research hub dedicated to exploring the interplay between cognition, emotions, and multilingualism in both human and virtual reality (VR) / AI-mediated communication. Our work focuses on untrained bilinguals, professional translators, and interpreters, uncovering how various bilingual experiences influence individual behavior and group interactions.
Interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaborations drive our mission. We collaborate with language service providers, neuroscientists, psychologists, virtual reality and AI developers, and translation professionals to address pressing practical questions in the field.
A central aim of our Lab is to leverage cognitive science to enhance communication and accessibility for bilingual individuals, communities relying on translation and interpreting (T&I) services, and professional translators and interpreters. This is especially important in contexts such as healthcare, the legal system and education, where the psychological dimensions of bilingualism, translation, and interpreting have profound, life-changing implications.
Vision
Through the application of rigorous scientific methodologies to the study of multilingual behavior, we strive to inform T&I industry practices and help to shape linguistic policymaking.
The CoHaBiT PsyLing Lab is always seeking motivated and dedicated research assistants to join our dynamic team, at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
As a research assistant or postgraduate research collaborator, you will have the opportunity to contribute to studies in language science. You will work closely with our team to collect and code data, assist in the development of experiments, and engage with many aspects of psycholinguistic research.
Ideal candidates are passionate about exploring the intersections of language and cognition and are eager to support innovative research in a collaborative, intellectually stimulating environment.
Research assistants always receive official certification for their collaboration.
If you are ready to gain valuable hands-on experience and training, we encourage you to apply via email. Please send your CV and a brief statement of interest.
The CoHaBiT PsyLing Lab is always seeking research participants. Do you speak two languages? Do you translate or interpret across languages? You might be eligible.
By joining our studies, you will play a proactive role in advancing our understanding of psycholinguistic phenomena. Participants will engage in a variety of tasks designed to explore cognitive processes and emotionality in language use.
Our participants are generously remunerated for their experimental participation.
