Over 150 CSULB students had an opportunity to enhance their ethical leadership skills during the 17th annual Ethics at The Beach seminar held at The Pointe inside the Walter Pyramid on March 15.
Janey Roeder, Director of the Ukleja Center for Ethical Leadership, and Lucia Martinez Perez, Ethics at The Beach Chair, provided welcoming remarks and an overview of the program. Through an interactive exercise, Dr. Shelly Collins shared strategies for overcoming imposter syndrome. She also encouraged students to take advantage of mental health resources available on campus through Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).
A dynamic panel discussion followed focusing on the seminar’s theme, The Courage to Set Boundaries, with Lucia serving as moderator. Esteemed panelists were: Carl Kemp, Executive Director of Public Affairs and Marketing at Long Beach City College; Bruce Mac Rae, Vice President of State Government Affairs at UPS, and Taryn Williams, doctoral student and researcher at the University of California, Irvine.
The final speaker was Morgan Shidler, Founder of Hustle & Play™ guidebook. After graciously donating a guidebook for every attendee, Morgan explained how to use it while highlighting the importance of balancing our lives by purposefully scheduling activities that bring us joy.
Closing remarks were provided by Shayleen Fay, Director of the Student Center for Professional Development, who thanked the event sponsors and encouraged students to complete a brief survey so they could receive a digital certificate of completion.
Ethics at The Beach was hosted by the Associated Business Students Organization Council, Student Center for Professional Development, and Ukleja Center for Ethical Leadership. Event sponsors were ASI, Boeing, Hustle & Play, and Beach Shops.
