Biologist Encourages Beachgoers to do the Sting Ray Shuffle

Benjamin Perlman, a lecturer in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, was featured in a KPCC podcast and online article providing a way to lower the risk of swimmers interacting with a sting ray. Dr. Perlman said people should shuffle their feet as they enter the water to avoid stepping directly on sting rays. The movement, which tends to scare the rays away, has been dubbed the "sting ray shuffle."
