TRIO SSS FAQs
The TRIO & Migrant Programs provide academic opportunities, counseling, tutoring and support to eligible individuals who are motivated to complete an undergraduate and/or advanced degree. The TRiO and Migrant Programs are dedicated to the academic advancement of military veterans, disabled individuals and low-income, first-generation students. The TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally-funded program designed to assist students who are low-income, first-generation to college, or have a disability; and who demonstrate academic need and the motivation to achieve their maximum potential in higher education. “Low-Income” is determined by the U.S. Department of Education based on household size and income. You are considered “First-Generation” if your Mother AND Father did not complete a 4-year college degree.

If you don’t know your exact taxable income, writing down an estimated taxable income will suffice.
Yes. Grade level is not part of our eligibility. As long as you meet our eligibility requirements, then you will be eligible for the program. To see more about our eligibility, click here.
We accept all majors.
We’ll notify you if you get accepted 1-2 weeks after you submit your application. If you wish to know the status of your application, please send us an email at sssp@csulb.edu.
No. SSS does not give out scholarships, but with the help of our coaches, we are able to help students find and apply for scholarships.
Yes, AB540 students are eligible for SSS if you meet the other requirements. You can download the application here.
No. If you don’t sign the photo release agreement, you agree that it is your own responsibility to avoid functions where a camera is present. All images, video, and audio taken from the function will be owned by TRIO and may be used in connection with advertising and promoting TRIO Student Support Services and any other TRIO program.
No, International students are not eligible to join Student Support Services.
No. Once you are admitted to the program, you will be an SSS student until you graduate
No. If you are part of EOP, you are not eligible for TRIO SSS
No, you don’t have to be a full-time student to be eligible for the program
Our office/computer lab is open Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm and advising hours (zoom, in-person, over-the-phone) are available from Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm (subject to change).
