Use and Misuse of Department Equipment & Facilities
Department Resources are to be used only for CINE class assignments that are approved by both CINE faculty and production staff.
Department Resources consist of:
- Department equipment
- Production, and post-production facilities
- Insurance, permits, student letters
Access to Department equipment and facilities, either in-person or virtually, is a PRIVILEGE, not a RIGHT. Privileges may be SUSPENDED or REVOKED at any time by the Department, if any of the policies outlined in this document, or any other CINE safety document, are violated.
Privileges may be denied or revoked for failure to comply with CINE or University policies.
This includes abusive or irresponsible behavior directed at any student, faculty, or staff member, and toward any Department equipment and/or facilities.
Depending upon the severity of the non-compliance, your academic standing within the Department and/or University may be suspended, and academic records withheld until all obligations have been satisfactorily met.
CINE does not operate on a first-come, first-served basis. All requests will be fulfilled in a fair and equitable manner, according to the policies below.
Wrongful use of misuse of any production resource, equipment or facilities will result in immediate pull of all department production resources.
Faculty and students are responsible for locking doors to rooms when use is completed.
There is no food or drink allowed in rooms. These should be consumed and disposed of outside the building.
The type and quantity of resources that a student may reserve, check out, or use is dependent on the course in which they are enrolled. The Resource Allocation document will be distributed by your professor for your specific class.
The Equipment Center does not provide materials for the following items listed below. The materials listed below are the students responsibility to provide for themselves.

Resource requests require that a current agreement form be on file, which will be made available by professors for those approved to use specific resources. Students must complete the forms each semester.
Students who check out or use department equipment outside of class are responsible for any type of damage or loss of equipment and/or parts that may occur while in their possession. You MUST REPORT any damage or loss of equipment and/or parts to the Equipment Center, Tech Office, or Production. Marking non-working or damaged equipment with RED PAPER TAPE is standard practice. The cost of repairing and/or replacing said equipment will be PAID BY THE STUDENT before the end of the current semester.
No repairs should be performed or attempted by any person other than CINE Production staff.
If an electrical item is damaged in any way (e.g., exposed wires), this should be brought to the attention of the E-Center and the damaged item should no longer be used until the issue is resolved by the Equipment & Production Facilities Coordinator.
The following steps must be taken when an equipment item is LOST or STOLEN:
A Lost or Stolen Property Report must be submitted to the CINE Department’s Production Office within three (3) working days if an equipment item is considered LOST.
The Police Department (PD) must be immediately notified if an equipment item has been considered STOLEN.
- Failure to follow any of the policies outlined in this document may result in a "strike” on a student’s standing
- Two strikes will result in loss of access to CINE equipment and facility reservation privileges for the remainder of the semester.
- Depending on the severity of the situation, the strike system will be skipped, and immediate action may be taken by the Department.
